KAFD Launches New Cycle of App Challenge Competition

The King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD) has launched a new cycle of the App Challenge Competition, targeting students from public and private schools aged 14–16.
The competition is one of the Royal initiatives implemented by KAFD. The launch of this new cycle reflects the KAFD’s commitment to supporting the Economic Modernization Vision and the priorities of the creative industries sector, particularly the electronic games industry, given its tangible role in empowering Jordanian youth, developing their technical skills, and contributing to the building of an innovation-driven economy while enhancing the Kingdom’s competitiveness regionally and globally.
The competition aims to foster innovation and creativity among students, introduce them to the electronic games and applications industry, and build their capacities in designing and developing applications and games for modern digital platforms. It also seeks to develop students’ professional skills, including working under pressure, time management, and teamwork, while encouraging the effective use of modern technologies in the digital field.
In this context, students wishing to participate can register for the orientation session, which is being introduced this year through a new mechanism based on an integrated electronic registration system via the following link: https://appch.kafd.jo.
The orientation phase represents the first stage of the competition, during which students are introduced to the history, emergence, and evolution of the electronic games industry. This is followed by an assessment test through which the schools qualifying for the training program are selected.

Following the orientation and training phases, the competition continues with the development and presentation stage, during which students work on developing electronic games over a six-week period, applying the skills and knowledge acquired in the previous stages.

The competition concludes with the evaluation and results announcement stage, where qualified teams are assessed based on specific criteria, most notably the quality of content and information presented and the level of creativity in design.

The winning school will be awarded the opportunity to establish a mini game lab, contributing to the promotion of creativity and innovation among its students and strengthening their engagement in modern technology fields and the electronic games industry.
It is worth noting that the App Challenge Competition was launched in 2011 and has been implemented through 17 cycles, contributing to the creation of 6,896 direct and indirect opportunities. A total of 1,407 schools have so far participated in the competition’s orientation sessions.
