AMMAN — The Global Game Jam, a global game-building competition, was recently hosted by the Jordan Gaming Lab, one of the King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD) project.
A total of 107 individual game developers took part in the 48-hours game development competition, which was hosted at the Lab's branches in Amman, Zarqa, and Aqaba. 16 games from Jordan were uploaded to the Challenge's dedicated website throughout the competition.
The activity was designed to stimulate participants to develop games, which would reflect positively on the Lab members' creativity and productivity, especially as it was aimed to hone participants' planning, programming, and design skills in a short time.
The Challenge's concept was to announce a Theme around which competitors would create their games, and the Lab provided the necessary hardware and software for games development and design.
The Challenge also allowed participants to experiment with modern technologies and tackle innovative ideas, learn time management skills for game building and sharing, and benefit from the experiences of local and international game developers who did the testing.
The Challenge was designed as an engaging exercise to exchange knowledge and experiences with all winners rather than as a competition.
The Jordan Gaming Lab, was established in 2011, seeks to support the gaming industry in Jordan, raise awareness of its importance among the younger generation, and foster connections among Jordanian youth interested in the field.
